Mandeep Dhami

Mandeep K. Dhami, Ph.D., is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge. She has held academic positions at the University of Victoria, Canada, University of Maryland, United States, and the Max Planck Institute, Germany. She has also had visiting appointments at the University of Granada, Spain, and Charles Sturt University, Australia.

Mandeep has a background in psychology and criminology, and her interests are in judgment and decision making (including risk), and criminal justice. She has published research on, for example, judicial, juror, offender, and police decision making, youth risk perceptions and risk taking, adaptation to imprisonment, and restorative justice (victim-offender mediation). More recently, she has done work for the military on intelligence analysis, social influence, and the Afghan police.

Her research has been funded by grants from the British Academy, Arts and Humanities Research Council, Ministry of Justice, and Ministry of Defence. She has received several awards for her research, including awards from Division 9 of the American Psychological Association, and the European Society of Judgment and Decision Making.

Mandeep is on the editorial boards of Perspectives on Psychological Science, the Journal of Empirical Legal Studies, the Journal of Behavioral Decision Making, and Judgment and Decision Making. She is also a Fellow of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues.

She has advised criminal justice, defence and security agencies, and trained judges, magistrates, and police officers. Mandeep has work experience as a psychologist in English prisons, and as an outreach worker in restorative justice programs in Canada.
